“The pictures that were taken of me before surgery make me cry. I never thought that I was that big. Dieting and exercise were never enough to make a difference, and I needed to make the drastic change. I was experiencing chest and joint pains on a regular basis. I knew that I was unhealthy and needed to do something that would help me get started in the right direction.

Choosing to go through with the gastric sleeve surgery was a tough decision, but one that I would do over again. The surgery is the tool that helped me create the healthy lifestyle change I needed. I have lost 72 lbs over the past 6 months and have gone from a size 22 to a 14. I am still working toward my goal, but I feel and look great. I have been able to exercise without feeling the pains in my chest and joints, and I have more confidence in myself.

It is nice to be able to go into any department store to find clothes instead of shopping at specialty stores that were limited by my size. Some of the people that I work with who haven’t seen me in six months do a double take when they see me. They can’t believe the transformation.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Weaver as your bariatric surgeon if you are looking into bariatric surgery in Denver, Colorado. The staff at Rose Medical Center was also very kind, caring and professional. You are never alone and you have a great support system through the whole process.”

“After struggling with my weight for my entire life, I made the decision to have LapBand surgery with Dr. John Weaver in April of 2013.  Having bariatric surgery was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made.  Since having surgery, I’ve lost over 100 pounds (108lbs to be exact) in 14 months.  I’ve gone from being a person who could barely walk up stairs to a person who exercises six days a week with Craig Shires,  a bariatric trainer at Adventure Fitness.  I no longer take asthma medications, and I no longer have sleep apnea.  The journey has not always been easy, but it is absolutely the best weight loss journey that I’ve ever undertaken.

When I started my journey I made a list of things I wanted to be able to do. This included activities like sitting in a booth at a restaurant, putting my tray down in an airplane and riding a roller coaster again.  My list consisted of a total of 32 things to accomplish.  I’ve accomplished all but five of them, and I’m well on my way to accomplishing those too.  Losing the weight and changing my life has allowed me to start working on a new list and to keep pushing myself forward.  The new list includes activities like stand-up paddle boarding, climbing an indoor rock wall, and going zip-lining.  As I lose the weight my list grows because there is no limit to what I can accomplish.  Looking back and having the absolute knowledge that I have already succeeded is the ultimate reward for choosing Dr. Weaver and the Lapband.  I have all the tools, support and encouragement that I need through Dr. Weaver’s office and my friends and family to be successful.  I look forward to what the future has in store for me.”

“Having bariatric surgery was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made! At 42 years old I had been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, had high-blood-pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and asthma. In addition, I was in need of a right-hip replacement due to severe arthritis, but the surgery risks were considered to be too high because I weighed too much. I honestly felt like my future was on the line; so after struggling with my weight for my entire life, I made the decision to have LapBand® surgery with Dr. John Weaver in April of 2013.

Since then, I’ve lost over 135 pounds. I no longer have sleep apnea or asthma and I no longer have to take any of my old medications. I had my right-hip replaced in July of 2014. I’ve gone from being a person who could barely walk up stairs to a person who exercises several days a week. I’ve gone from being a person who just wanted to sit comfortably in a booth at a restaurant and be able to shop for clothes at any store, to being a jogger, a hiker, a mountain biker and a stand-up paddle boarder. My whole world has opened up – I even went skydiving to celebrate turning 45 and now I’m training for a half-marathon! Most important of all – I’m healthy!

The journey has not always been easy – there have been some ups and downs, and I’m still working towards my goal weight – but it is absolutely the best weight loss journey I’ve ever undertaken. Thanks to Dr. Weaver and his staff, as well as my friends and family, I have all the tools, support and encouragement I need to be successful. For the first time, I feel like I’m LIVING my life and it’s an amazing adventure!”

“I am proud to say that I have officially lost more than 100% of my excess body weight.

Being overweight made my life full of fear and anxiety. I was unable to climb two flights of stairs without feeling fatigued and riding a bike was practically impossible. One of my most embarrassing experiences was when my husband and I could not go on a ride at a water park because our combined weight was too high for the safety guidelines. This was announced in front of a line full of people with our kids present.

After years of attempted dieting and waking up every morning ashamed of myself and feeling more lethargic, I finally worked up the courage to speak with my primary doctor. This doctor’s trip was an all-time low for me. I weighed 266lbs. At 5’6” tall, my BMI was 42.9. I was officially morbidly obese. My blood work also showed that my fasting glucose was 218. I was headed towards type 2 Diabetes. I felt heartbroken and completely lost. My doctor simply said, “You are obese, and you need to lose weight.”

I immediately sprang into action. I was humiliated that I was considered obese, stressed about being diabetic and terrified that I would develop the same heart problems as my family. I started dieting immediately. After being a yo-yo dieter for years I knew I would have to try something different, so I decided to go on a low carb diet. I was able to lose some weight from this diet, but dieting alone wasn’t enough. I began to exercise daily.

I successfully lost 103lbs through diet and exercise. However, one year later I had regained most of the weight. All of my hard work was gone. I knew then that I desperately needed help. I began to do research online and discovered Dr. John Weaver with Western Surgical Bariatric Center. I quickly made my first appointment where we discussed different surgical weight-loss options. I eagerly set my LapBand surgery date for February 2013. On the day of my surgery, I weighed 221lbs. My goal on the day of surgery was to weigh 150lbs. On December 26th, 2013, I officially weighed 148lbs.

Prior to my life with the LapBand, I had a difficult time riding my bike two miles. This year, I completed my first 100 mile ride, the Denver Century Ride. I’ve also enjoyed participating in the Moonlight Classic and mountain biking with my family. I am now able to maintain my normal body weight with the assistance of the LapBand. Exercise and proper nutrition have also become part of my daily life.

My greatest goal of all was leaving my life of morbid obesity behind. All of the fears and anxiety that I held deep inside are gone. I am finally who I want to be.”
