Preparing for Your Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Published on May 4, 2018

A lot of people tend to feel anxious prior to their gastric sleeve procedure. This is completely understandable. While we may not be able to completely keep your mind off of the surgery, there are some things we can do to help keep your mind occupied. One of these things is a pre-op checklist. You can use this to ensure you’re ready when the day finally arrives.

The first thing on your checklist is coming in for your initial consultation with fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon Dr. John Weaver. During this consultation, you can ask any questions you may have regarding the procedure and Dr. Weaver will provide you with answers.

Next, you will need to have a consultation with a dietician/nutritionist, who will help you understand the dietary changes you will need to make.

The next step will be coming in for a pre-operative examination and workup. Dr. Weaver will carefully examine the condition of your body and will do some blood work and diagnostic testing to ensure that you are healthy enough for the procedure. You will also need to attend a few nutritional classes prior to your surgery.

Lastly, you will need to undergo pre-anesthesia testing to ensure that no complications arise during your surgery. We will also provide you with a list of pre-op dietary instructions that you will need to follow.

At Western Surgical Bariatric Center, we strive to provide our patients with outstanding care from the moment they come in for their consultation to the last post-operative visit they have. If you are in need of bariatric surgery, contact us to schedule a consultation.
